Introduction:

The Commonwealth Scholarship is a UK Government-funded scholarship program for talented students from eligible Commonwealth countries, including Pakistan. It supports postgraduate study in the UK, particularly Master’s and PhD programs, with the aim of developing skills and knowledge that contribute to sustainable development in the scholars’ home countries.

The scholarship generally provides full tuition fees, an approved living allowance/stipend, return airfare to the UK, and other allowances related to study and living expenses. The exact benefits can vary depending on the specific Commonwealth scholarship scheme.

Eligibility criteria:

For a Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship, applicants generally must be a citizen or permanent resident of an eligible Commonwealth country, be available to start studies in September/October 2027, hold a first degree equivalent to at least a UK upper-second-class (2:1) degree, and demonstrate that they cannot afford to study in the UK without the scholarship. Pakistan applicants also have to meet HEC's requirements. For the current HEC route, this includes a first-division 16-year degree for Master’s applicants and a minimum HAT score of 60/100.

Documents required:

Commonly required documents include academic transcripts for all higher-education qualifications, degree certificates, two references, passport/identity information, employment or professional experience details, and information about publications/prizes where applicable. For PhD applicants, a supporting statement from a proposed UK supervisor is also required. Certified English translations are required where documents are not in English.
